Film Industry Field Trip — CAT PAT 2026

Destinations

Scouting two production hubs — Cape Town and Durban — for a Grade 12 field trip into the film and television industry.

Why these destinations

Two cities, one industry

The purpose of this field trip is to give Grade 12 learners an opportunity to learn about careers in the film, television and media industries. Two locations are being investigated — Cape Town and Durban — because between them they cover production, education and industry development, giving a broader picture of the industry than any single site could.

The destinations below were selected because they provide opportunities to learn about different parts of the creative industry, including film production, acting, television, broadcasting, media education and industry support. They are proposed locations — further communication, permission, availability, transport and cost investigations would be required before the trip could take place.

Call sheet — why both cities

The two hubs complement each other. Cape Town offers direct exposure to studio-scale production and formal creative education, while Durban's organisations show how the industry is supported and promoted at a provincial and city level. Visiting both would give learners a broader understanding of how the industry operates and what opportunities may be available after Grade 12.
